Gaja Udharana Besha As per tradition, the Deities adorned with Gaja Udharana Besha on full moon day of magha ( January – February ). In accordance with Research fellow Padmasri Sadasiva Rath Sharma, this Besha was introduced by Smt. Bakula Mahadevi, queen of Bhomya dynasty . After that this Besha was discontinued for some years. During 1575, the king Ramachandra Deva re-introduced this Besha. As per Purana, Sri Jagannath had saved votary elephant from the cloches of one giant crocodile. This besha is observed on full moon day of Magha after completion of dinner and mailam . This besha is observed with the help of Bhitarachhu, Talichhu, Puspalaka, Nijogi Khuntia and Mekaap. The deities bejeweled with Crown, earning, Surya Chandra, Waist Belt, hand, Bangle, Bracelet of Conch, Chakra, Gada, Padma, Hala and Musala . It is believed that all auspicious things obtained on seeing this Besha with sacred heart.
