Utpanna Ekdashi, also known as Utpatti Ekadasi, is observed on Margashira Krishna Paksha Ekadashi, the eleventh day in first half during Margashira masa or Margasira month. This Ekadashi commemorates the demolition of demon Murasura by Lord Vishnu and it is associated with the birth of Ekadasi Matta. When Lord Vishnu was sleeping, demon Mura planned to kill him. Goddess Ekadasi was born by the divine creation and slain the demon.
