Bhubaneswar, 12th April 2012: Bhubaneswar is bracing for a unique and first of its kind exhibition ‘Imaginations in sand’ with an exquisite collection of sand sculptures made by international sand art maestro Sudarsan Pattnaik, presented on canvas at gallery, for the first time. Adding to the excellence the artist has planned to have sand installation and use of colours on the collection of photographs of some of his prominent works, for the first time in the world. While the real sand sculptures are vulnerable to the weather conditions and have limited life span of few days, this international exhibition brings together all the major sand sculptures made by Sudarsan over these years, at a single place, to the delight of the art loving audience.
The unique international exhibition ‘Imaginations in sand’, scheduled to open by Honourable Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Naveen Patnaik on 14th April, will have more than 100 pieces of sand art photographs printed on canvas, showcasing some of the highly acclaimed sand sculptures made by Sudarsan Pattnaik. The exclusive collection will showcase the excellent pieces of art in nine major thematic categories such as ‘Where gold is green and blue’, ‘Sand for social causes’, ‘A World beyond borders’, ‘Saluting the talented souls’, ‘Power of Art’, ‘Sporting with sand’, ‘Expressions beyond sand’, ‘The Art of narration’ and ‘Celebration called life’.
On the inaugural occasion a special collection of photographs comprising 12 rare sand art photographs of Sudarsan will be released to the public.
The four day exhibition spanning from 14th – 17th April will be open for public from 11.30 am – 7.30pm. Coincidentally 15th April, the 2nd day of this unique exhibition is also the 35th birthday of Sudarsan Pattnaik – the artist who redefined sand art and brought laurels for the state and the country through his artistic excellence over more than 20 years.
On the thought behind this unique exhibition, Sudarsan says “This is a way for me to express my tribute to the sand and sand art while bringing together several of my acclaimed pieces of Sand Sculpture on the canvas for the people and the art lovers to see. At one place they can see all my work on the gallery. Sand has always been my passion, love and inspiration to life.
