A woman tourist from Russia drowned while bathing in the sea at Puri in Orissa today, police said.
The 45-year-old woman, identified as Valutca Irina, was dragged into the sea by an undercurrent while
bathing with five other foreigners near Swargadwar, Sea Beach Police Station in-charge officer Amulya Kumar said.
Though the woman was rushed to a nearby government hospital, the doctors could not save her, Mr Kumar
said.
She was among a 60-member group of foreigners visiting Puri and was scheduled to leave on Thursday, Mr Kumar added. Her husband, an ISKON devotee at Kolkata, has been informed, he said.
