Former President Pratibha Patil is scheduled to visit Jagannath Temple in Puri on October 10. She had last made a trip to the town on December 9, 2009, while occupying the highest office.
According to her itinerary, Patil would arrive in Bhubaneswar on October 9 and spend a few minutes at the Raj Bhawan. She would proceed to Puri the same evening and stay at the Raj Bhawan there for the night.
“She will offer prayers at the temple on October 10. Adequate security measures, in accordance with her protocol, will be put in place,” SP (Puri) Anup Kumar Sahoo told TOI.
Sources said she would spend nearly half an hour in the 12th century shrine. However, unlike her previous visit as President, the temple would not be closed for common pilgrims this time. She is also scheduled to attend a private function in Cuttack that evening.
Patil’s previous visit was not a smooth sailing. Soon after having darshan of the deities, she flew to the capital in an Indian Air Force helicopter. She and her entourage had a miraculous escape when the helicopter hit the hanger wall of the Biju Patnaik airport here while landing.
