Lord Jagannath offered pinda – Deba Dipabali

Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra celebrated the three day-long Deba Dipabali . As per ritual, Lord Jagannath offered pinda (obsequies) to his parents. On the first day, The Lord offered pinda to King Indradyumna, who installed the divine Trinity in the temple. According to legend, he asked for a boon to end his dynasty so that none of his successive family members could claim ownership of the temple. The boon was granted by Lord Jagannath, who volunteered to offer pinda to his ardent devotee, Indradyumna.

Lord Jagannath, as the incarnation of Sri Ram, offered pinda to his father, King Dasarath. Being the incarnation of Lord Krishna, Jagannath Prabhu offered pinda to His original parents, Basudev and Devaki on the second day. And on the concluding day, Lord Jagannath offered pinda to his foster parents, Nanda and Yashoda.
