Sand chariots & Jagannath at Sankha kshetra Puri

Sand chariots & Jagannath at Sankha kshetra Puri

It is this time of the year again and ecstasy runs high among anxious devotees as Rath Yatra date comes closer. But amongst the curious pilgrims, it is the non-Hindus, who are frenzied a lot. Rath Yatra is the only occasion where all religions people can have a glimpse of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and devi Subhadra, as the triad of Hindu deities come out of their abode and head towards their birthplace at Gundicha temple riding on three giant chariots.

With Rath Yatra two days to go world champion sand artist Sudarsan pattnaik on Monday recreated three chariots on a sankha and an image of lord Jagannath on sand at Sankha kshetra Puri, Odisha.

The holy land of Odisha is divided into four Kshetra and Puri is called Sankha kshetra or Srikshetra. So I created a Sankha on sand said Sudarsan.

Sudarsan created 15ft long sand Sankha three chariots and lord Jagannath using colour sand. It took 5hrs, using 12 tones of sand to complete this. Students of his sand art institute join hand with him.

So far sudarsan has participated in more than 50 International sand sculpture festival and championship around the world and won many prizes for our country. Recently he owns the 1st prize at Copenhagen International sand art championship. Sudarsan is brand ambassador of NALCO.
