Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik joins hands with 350.org for Climate Impacts day

May 5th, 2012

On the 4th of May, as a pre cursor to the Climate Impacts Day, Odisha’s famous sand sculptor Sudarsan Pattnaik has joined hands with 350.org to create a 7 foot sand sculpture with a message “Climate change = Extreme Heat” that vividly depicts the impacts of global warming on mankind. The sculpture shows how extreme heat due to climate change and urbanization is having a negative impact on humans and various other species on the planet. He used 10 tones of sand and took 7 hours to complete this sculpture at Puri beach of Odisha.

” I am happy to join this effort of 350.org. I have created this sculpture for the climate impacts day and I hope that through my sculpture people will be able to see that climate change is a serious issue”, said Pattnaik. In 2008 Pattnaik’s sand sculpture on climate change won the World championship at Berlin, Germany.
