World Environment Day – Let’s make our world a greener place – SANDART

On the eve of World Environment Day (WED) 2015 falling on 5th of June each year, international reputed Sand artist Sri Manas Kumar Sahoo has created a sand sculpture on the golden sea-beach of Puri, 65 km from Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha.

World Environment Day - Let’s make our world a greener place - WED

World Environment Day took place in 1973, inspired by the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment that took place the year before starting on June 5th. In 43 years of its history, World Environment Day movement has urged people around the world to save environment, become aware of the threats posed by climate change and take affirmative action. But never did it ask people in a way where the message was inextricably linked with the economics of living.

The WED theme this year is therefore “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.” Living within planetary boundaries is the most promising strategy for ensuring a healthy future. Human prosperity need not cost the earth. Living sustainably is about doing more and better with less. It is about knowing that rising rates of natural resource use and the environmental impacts that occur are not a necessary by-product of economic growth.
The artist’s message in this art is choice is yours we can get a better environment or not. He wants to aware the people for save environment, and to create good and healthy environment for future generation. Environment is the main cause of natural calamities like flood, earthquake, tsunami etc. Mr. Sahoo shows in his art one side a green land in full of trees and another side completely concreate jungle in so many buildings. The sand sculpture is of 20 feet length made with 10 tons of sand, with a hard labor of nearly 8 hours and with a message “Let’s make our world a greener place”
