The devotees have to pay a hefty amount to have a darshan of Lord Jagannath from Monday.
If any devotee wants to have a darshan of Lord Jagannath from the Ratna Singhasana (from the mandap) in Puri Temple, he will have to pay Rs 100 instead of Rs 25. Similarly, the ordinary ticket for the darshan has been increased from Rs 5 to Rs 25.
With this ticket, one devotee can enter near to the Bhitarakatha, a release by the temple administration said.
Opposing the move, senior BJP leader Biswabhusana Harichandan said that Sri Jagannath is the Lord of the poor.
The decision to hike the ticket should be revoked keeping the larger interest of the common man, he said.
Meanwhile, a number of voluntary organizations have threatened to launch an agitation against the move of the administration to hike the ticket price.
