Kabir Chaura Math

A historical Kabirchaura Math is located in the coastal town of Puri in the state of Orissa. It is of historical importance as it is linked directly to the journeys of Kabir Saheb. Puri has a special relationship with Kabir Saheb.

According to local tradition, while the construction of the sacred Jagannath Temple was repeatedly disturbed by the powerful sea waves, Saint Kabir arrived in Puri and planted his sacred staff, known as the “Kubari” or “Asha Baadi,” near the shore. It is believed that from that moment the sea remained calm, allowing the temple construction to continue peacefully. Even today, the sacred staff is preserved at the math and is revered by devotees.

Since that day on the waves of the ocean did not move pass the Kubari thus leaving the Mandir site in peace. Eventually the Mandir was erected and till this day is an important place of worship.
