Chandan Purnima:-Chandan Purnima or popularly known as Chandan Jatra is celebrated on the full moon day of Baishakha (i.e. Baishakha Purnima). The festival, starting from Akshyaya Trutiya, lasts for twenty-one days and is held in the month of Baishakha at the height of the summer heat when Chandan (sandal paste) and water are vital to maintain people cool. Sahi Jatra:-Sahi Yatra is believed to have begun in 1230 AD. According to records, in the 11th century, during the reign of Chodoganga Deva, King of Puri, many ‘ kota ’s (forts), bastions and ‘jagagharas’ (gymnasiums) were developed to safeguard the temple town of Puri from invaders. ‘Sahi’ means locality. There are seven very old sahis in the holy town today on both sides of the main road and 42 by-lanes around the Jagannath temple of Puri. read more |
Ram Nabami:-Shree Jagannath was more established as Shree Ram by saint Tulasi Das. Like that of all religious scholars who visited the temple of Shree Jagannath at Puri, saint Tulasi Das also visited and saw Shri Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra on the grand throne. Rathyatra:-The most celebrated and respected festival of Orissa, Ratha Yatra or the Car Festival, the Festival of Chariots, is held with religious grandeur at Puri, the south-east seashore town in Orissa.
