Dasamula – Medicines for Lord Jagananth

Dasamula – Medicines for Lord Jagananth

The administration of Dasamula to the deities, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Maa Subhadra, is a significant ritual conducted by the Royal Physicians (Raja Baidyas) using a blend of ten herbal ingredients: Belacheli, Gambhari, Pateli, Fanafana, Agabathu, Krusnaparni, Shalaparni, Ankranty, Pateli, and Labingkoli. This traditional medicine is believed to cure the deities from their ailments by the 10th day of Ashadha Krusna Paksha Dasami.

On this day, known as Ashadha Krusna Paksha Dasami, the Daitapati priests set the deities on a stone pedestal called chakaa, in a ritual known as Chakaabije. After the installation of the deities on the Chakaa, various offerings are made to them, including Peda, milk (khira), cream (sara), cheese (chenna), liaa, mango (amba), jackfruit (panasha), Muga, and coconut (Nadia). These offerings are part of the ceremonial practices intended to honor and appease the deities during their recovery period.
