The term Nabakalebara (Oriya: ନବକଳେବର, Sanskrit: नवकलेवर) is an ancient ritual associated with most of the Jagannath Temples when the Idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshan are replaced by a new set of Idols. A year (Adhika masa) of Ashadha masa as Hindu Calendar is auspicious for conducting the ceremony. This usually occurs every twelve to nineteen years. The Deities are made from a special type of Neem wood known as Daru Bramha. Preparations for the ceremony start in the month of Chaitra. Manas Kumar sahoo lunch a sand animation video on this theme of nabakalebara. In this video he shows the “lila of Daru brahma”.

For preparing this video the artist has made a continuous effort for 7 hours and the video is of duration of 5 minutes 44 seconds. In this video he shows Specific persons including the Daitas are deputed from the Puri temple to the Mangala temple in Kakatapur village to implore the mercy of the said goddess, so that they would be able to spot out the suitable margosa trees. There are many specifications about the environment, location, height, age and other details of the trees which should be thoroughly checked before they are procured for the purpose. After the trees are located and selected, a small ritual, including homa (offering to fire) takes place and the tree is felled. Then it is cut to size and brought to the temple In Koili Vaikuntha.
