The Odisha coast is the one of the main mass nesting center in the world map for the Olive Ridley turtle since time immemorial. Three sites in the coastal zone of Odisha is famous in the world for mass nesting of turtle i.e. Gahiramatha, Devi Mouth and Rushikulya Mouth. But nearly 7000 nos. of Olive Ridley every year were pushed to death by the human being for their sheer selfishness.
Hence to save the turtle, International sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik today made an awareness campaign through creating many turtles on sand at Golden beach, Puri, Odisha with a message “Save Turtles”.
Students of his sand art school help him to complete this. These sand turtles are created in 4 hours. Pattnaik wants to send the message to the people “Do not encroach upon turtle’s habitats”. Pattnaik spreading this awareness through sand sculpture since last seven years in different places.
