The Allapadma Thakurani Temple is situated in Pathuria Sahi within Kundhibenta Sahi, Puri. It occupies a significant place along the Pathuria Sahi Road, branching from the Municipal market via Hatajodi Thakurani. This temple serves as an active center of worship dedicated to Allhapadma Thakurani, also known as Durga.
Local folklore suggests that the original deity was housed in the Sri Nahara palace before being relocated to its present location. The temple observes various religious ceremonies, including Durgastami, Sitalasasthi, and marriage rituals.
Historically, the temple’s origins trace back to the Ganga period, dating back to the 13th century A.D. Presently, it is under the management of the local temple committee, overseen by Bishnu Prashad Nanda. The architectural style and building materials of the temple reflect its historical significance and cultural heritage.
The temple, adorned with lime plaster, conceals its intricate carvings. Notably, the Parsvadevata niches are adorned with urdhagarvika in khakhara mundi designs. Along the base of the gandi, a miniature rekha angasikhara is prominent on the western wall, crowned by an udyota simha standing triumphantly over a human head.
Further architectural details include dopichha simha on the beki, positioned above the kanika pagas, and deula charini flanking the raha on all four sides. Within the kanika paga, one can discern diminutive female figures, adding to the temple’s aesthetic allure and historical significance.
