The Gita Govinda is considered as lyric poetry which is unique in it style. From the ‘point of view, of its melodious songs based on the divine love of Radha and Krisna, is a master piece of literary composition. Poet Jaydeva laid much emphasis on prema and bhakiti expressed is sweet, simple and melodious words. As the text is divided into 12 cantos, 24 prabandhas or songs and 77 ( 72) verses, out of that the first and tenth prabandha contains eleven and five stanzas each which are called astapadis. In the text, Jayadev has mentioned ten ragas viz-Malava, Gujjari, Varadi, Karnata, Bhairva, Vasnta, Desi or Desivaradi, Desyaka, it is lyrical poetry, music and dance is very significant in nature throughout the text. The whole gandharvakala depicts very well the social life and customs of the society. The musical instrument mentioned by Jayadeb are bansi ( Flute), tala, benu, karatal, dindima, )drum ) nupura ( bangle creating sound ) kinkini ( Waist-gridle creating sound). The very name of the work signifies that it was a hymn to God Govinda which was meant to be sung before God of his adoration Jagadisha ( Lord Jagananth )
