Niladri Mahodaya Ashtami is a sacred observance in the Jagannath Temple, falling on Vaishakha Shukla Ashtami. It is known as one of the “Trayodasha Yatra” (independent festivals) of Srimandir. Niladri Mahodaya Ashtami in 2026 falls on 24 April 2026 (Friday)
Spiritual Significance
This Niladri Mahodaya Ashtami commemorates the divine installation (Pratishtha) of the deities—Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra, and Sudarshana—on the Ratna Simhasana during Satya Yuga.
The installation was performed by Brahma in the presence of sages like Narada Rishi and Bharadwaja, along with King Indradyumna, the temple’s founder.
It marks the consecration of the Daru Vigraha (wooden forms) as Param Brahma, making this day deeply significant in Jagannath tradition.
