Sand sculpture to celebrate Non violence Day on the golden sea beach Puri

The worldwide celebration of International non violence day on 2 October has also encouraged the reputed international sand artist Mr. Manas Kumar Sahoo has created a sand sculpture at the golden sea beach of Puri, Odisha and distance of 65k.m from Bhubaneswar of the capital of Odisha.

On 15th June 2007 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish 2 October as the International Day of Non-Violence. The International Day of Non-Violence is held on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. And also this day is referred to in India as Gandhi Jayanti. The Day is an occasion to ‘disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness’. The resolution reaffirms “the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence” and the desire “to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence”.

The artist Mr. Sahoo has prepared a sand sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi give the peace message throughout the world. This sculpture is the height of 12 ft, using 20 tons of sand and continuous labour of 24 hours. By preparing this sculpture the artist also wants to give a message “International Non Violence day”.
