Lord Hayagriva, ‘Horse-neck’ God, is a horse-headed avatar of the Lord Vishnu in Hinduism. In Hinduism, Lord Hayagriva is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. He is worshipped as the god of knowledge and wisdom, with a human body and a horse’s head. Symbolically, the story represents the triumph of pure knowledge, guided by the hand of Divinity, over the demonic forces of passion and darkness.

The painting of Lord Hayagriva, found on wall of monastery Shankaranda. Sankarananda Math, Puri, is probably built in 1600 century A.D. Ownership or level of protection of the Matha is now Endowments Department of the Govt. of Orissa. Shankaranda Math,Puri is the most ancient matha of Puri Dham. But now it is all most in a ruin stage.

Swami Adwetabadi Shankaranda Saraswati was established Shankaranda Math, the same period of Govardhana Matha established. It was belief, Shnakrarananda Matha was the branch of Shrungeri Sarada Pitha.
