“Mother, in the entry path of the grand mountain of Brahmagiri, is the dwelling place of Mother Masani Chandi. During the Shola Puja time, special independent worship of Mother used to be conducted. Sacrifices of fish were made to Masani Chandi regularly. The shrine of Masani Chandi is located at a distance from the Markandeswar Mahadev temple. Presently, this shrine is revered by people, and it has gained importance over the years. In the past, Masani Chandi’s place was situated on Lokanath Road in Puri, but due to the demands of offerings and services for Mother, it was later shifted to its current location.
During that time, the roads in Puri were not developed, and there were no concrete pathways. Kataki Penta, which was once a bustling commercial center, became a hub for business in the city Puri.
Under the banyan tree at Baraghacha, Mother Masani Chandi had manifested herself, and miraculously, the water in the well at that place used to turn sweet. Many different people, including those suffering from yellow fever (referred to as ‘pila’ in local language), the royal family, and religious sannyasis, visited this sacred place.
These events depict the significance of this place and its connection with Mother Masani Chandi, who is dear to the hearts of many.”
